The Usual Suspects Movie Review

The movie: The Usual Suspects was filmed in 1995 with Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Benico Del Toro, Kevin Pollak, Kevin Spacey, Chazz Palminteri, Pete Postlethwaite and many more. The plot surronds a major mystery that the detectives are trying to figure out. It opens with a boat being completely destroyed by explosion. The criminals who were organizing a drug trade are dead and the only survivor is a man played by Kevin Spacey. The entire plot is based on his story of what happened from the very beginning where they met at a random police lineup. It is extremely good, and won 2 Oscars.

It definitely reminds me of an old Philip Marlowe mystery or Oceans eleven or twelve! It is a really good mystery that is a classic!

What is really important?

What makes me extremely mad about the media is what they feel is extremely important! On the day that Paris Hilton was ruled to go to jail was also the day that Omar Khadr (a Canadian detainee of Guantanamo Bay) charges were dropped against him. On the Canadian news that night, Omar Khadr's trial was barely even covered however all of the time was spent on talking about Paris Hilton and her new problems, being sent to jail. How awful is this, they worry about Paris Hilton being sent when Omar Khadr has spent a couple number of years being tortured by the Americans because they thought that he was going to bomb America!! This is a major insult to Omar Khadr, seriously this is outrageous!!!

Bias

Bias: is a point of view about a subject that is not objective or neutral. The point of using bias in an article is so that it sways viewers to believe whatever the journalist wants them to believe. There has been a lot of bias in th media dealing with the Iraq war and celebrities.

Ipods

Apple's ipod is one of the greatest and most important things I own. It has all of my music on it, or files that i need and i think that people really don't care about ipods because the surge of popularity has passed. ipod sales are slowly starting to decrease as cheaper ifrauds become more available even though they don't work overly well.

Ipods were launched in October 2001, the original first ipod stored up to 10GB and cost $500 coming complete with a mechanical scroll wheel, the fourth ipod was released in July 2004 and could cost $450. Their were buttons on the click wheel, it had a display with colour.

The other day i saw the newest Ipod commercial and was really impressed! I have a 30gb ipod and i love it a lot, it is the best thing inthe world knowing that if i go anywhere that most of my songs that i have i can listen! Obviously Ipod's are newer inventions that brought the company of Apple back into the market as they hadn't been doing so well being opposed with Microsoft. The commercials are extremely different from the other commercials on television because it just is music and dancing as you may or may not already be aware of. The music that have been used in a couple commercials are:
*Hey Mama by the Black eyed peas

*Are you going to be my girl? by Jet
*Walkie Talkie Man by Steriogram

*Vertigo by U2

*Jerk it out by the Caesars
*Technologic by Daft Punk
*Feel Good Inc. by The Gorrillaz
*Love Train by Wolfmother
*The Audience is Listening Theme Song by Cut Chemist
*Flathead by The Fratellis

* and the newest song is Mi Swing Es Tropical by Quantic and Nickodemus
I honesly think that everybody who loves music should have an ipod because they are so good!

Dashboard Confessional!

Dashboard Confessional is an alternate rock band that was started by Chris Carabba, Their first cd was released in 2000, The Swiss Army Romance which was an acoustic and lyrics. "Screaming Infidelities" and "Living in your Letters" were the two songs were two of the best. Their second cd The Places You Have come To Fear the Most was released in 2001, then in 2003 A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar was released and the song "Hands Down" went up the billboards. In 2004 the song "Vindicated" for Spiderman 2 made Dashboard Confessional's audience grow. Their most recent cd, Dusk and Summer was released in 2006 and when released was at number two on the Billboards. Dusk and Summer has many songs, but some of the best are definitely The Secret's in the Telling, Stolen, Dusk and Summer, however all of the songs are really good. Dashboard Confessional's lyrics are extremely well written and very inspiring.
The Bottom Line: Dashboard Confessional is an awsome band, buy their cds today!

Montana's Cook House

I saw a few of the commercials for Montana's CookHouse and I am really disgusted by their adveritisng. The ones that really bug me are the commercials where there are a deer and a moosehead sitting on the walls talking about the menu... who wants to go eat in a restaraunt with deer and moose hanging off the walls staring at you while you eat food, perhaps it is their friend, Bessie the cow!
The Bottom Line: I doubt know I will ever consider going into any Montanna's restraunt!

Veronica Mars

My favourite show is Veronica Mars, we watched the pilot in Media class but I watch it religiously. Anticipation is building for the finale as it may end up being the series finale if Veronica mars ends up getting cancelled. The first season of Veronica Mars is centered around her life: being an outcast of the popular group, her best friends murder leads to the downfall of her father's career as the sherieff, her work with her dad in their P.I. office, and the mystery of who killed Lily Kane (her best friend). The second season is just as good: In her senior year Veronica tries to solve how her classmates were killed when their bus went off a cliff. The third season which is currently on the CW is in shambles, it has gone away from the basic one long mystery over the entire season and basic cases throughout one episode, instead there are three mysteries happening. So far the two have been who has killed the Dean of the univesity and who was the rapist on campus. Main characters of the season excluding veronica (weevil, wallace, mac, lamb, piz, and parker) are not seen for long periods of time and no explanation is given as to where they have gone.

This show has the best dialogue, i have to write down a couple quotes because they make me laugh a lot (hopefully you as well.)

-Van Clemmons: Mr. Echolls, I was wondering if I could have a word?
Logan: Anthropomorphic. All yours, big guy.

-Mr. Tom Daniels: [walk in to find Weevil and Logan playing cards] Is this Reno or detention?
Logan: Can you believe the best of both.
Weevil: [Daniels takes away their cards] Oh, come on, man.
Logan: What the hell, we were playing a game here.
Mr. Tom Daniels: This is punishment gentlemen, not party time.
Logan: Well, that would explain the absence of balloon animals.

-Veronica: You prank-called Mandy?
Lenny: What if I did?
Veronica: Well, I want to congratulate you. Shake your hand. Congratulations! You've been named the world's biggest cockroach. This award is given in recognition in your unparalleled lack of decency and humanity. Bravo. You're going to die friendless and alone.
-Wallace: I was gonna hang out with some of the guys on the team at lunch.
Veronica: And ruin the sanctity of our lunch duo? You know that'll send me crying to the bathroom.
The cast of the show includes: Kristen Bell, Percy Daggs the third, Jason Dohring, Francis Capra, Enrico Colantoni, Ryan Hansen, Teddy Dunn, Michael Muhney, Kyle Gallner and Tina Majorino. Not only is the dialogue awsome the cast is one of the best casts i have seen in my entire life, they all are such great actors. Guest stars include: Aaron Ashmore, Johnathon Taylor Thomas, Paris Hilton, Alyson Hannigan,Max Greenfield, Jonathan Chesner, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Ed Begley Jr., Johathan Bennet and many others.
Currently rumors of Veronica Mars are being circulated as is usual with the end of the season approaching however this season there is a lot more going on as the creator Rob Thomas is considering changing the show making it four years later while Veronica has entered the FBI training program. For all those watching the third season it finally returns on May 1, the season finale will be two hours long on May 22. The next few episodes must also include the exit of both the characters Piz and Parker as they are both leaving to do other pilots.

The bottom line: However much the third season is not overly as good as the others, both seasons one and two are worth buying on dvds because the dialogue is so clever, the plot is awsome and you can watch it over and over again. Plus the theme song We Used To Be Friends by the Dandy Warhols rocks!

Who Killed the Electric Car?

I saw the second half of the movie Who Killed the Electric Car, for anybody who hasn't heard of it, it is a documentary about how in California electric cars were being driven and now ten years later the car which were quiet and fast, produced no exhaust and ran without gasoline were destroyed. The movie looked very good and I wish that I had seen the entire film, what was clearly evident was the how powerful the owners of the electric cars felt once they were destroyed.
The Bottom Line: An important issue, why is everything that may be good taken away!?

Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou is a very intelligent woman, she is a poet, memorist, actress and was very important to the Civil Rights Movement. Maya Angelou was born in 1928. Her childhood was not the best: she was sexually abused and her uncles would beat men to death......
Her most famous works are: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Gather Together in My Name, Singin' and Swingin' and Gettin' Merry Like Christmas, The Heart of a Woman and All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes. One of her famous poems is Alone:
Alone
Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong
That nobody, But nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
There are some millionaires
With money they can't use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Now if you listen closely I'll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody, But nobody
Can make it out here alone.
Alone, all alone Nobody,
but nobody
Can make it out here alone.
The Bottom Line: Maya Angelou is a smart, poetic woman who should be praised by society today.

Juno's 2007

The Juno's are usually a huge event for Canada with loads of Canadian musicians coming together under one roof and performing many songs and accepting awards that show how much the Canadian public appreciates them. A lot of people that I know don't watch the Juno's, I however, am a total music junkee and I did watch them.... and this is what the Juno's 2007 came down to...one long excuse for Nelly Furtado to proclaim that she in fact is an idiot!
Now for the 20th anniversary of the Juno's Nelly Furtado was picked to be the host in Saskatoon, the whole shindig started with Nelly Furtado flying in singing her song "I'm like a bird" in an attempt to get laughs... it wasn't funny. I should state now, that before the Juno awards I did not mind Nelly Furtado and thought her songs were extremely catchy but after the two hour spectacle of what was to be a night of music appreciation I can not stand her.

I'm going to talk about the performances first....The first performance was Billy Talent with their first single off of their second album, "devil in a midnight mass" which should have been great as this band rocks live. However the tech guys could not get the mikes right so the music was very dimly heard over the screaming of the fans...the band was awsome but the sound wasn't equal. This was a huge disappointment! The next performance was "Sunday Morning" by K-OS and the tech guys had seemed to get a big better.. but the sound wasn't all that good, but the performance was pretty awsome. At the end K-OS grabbed a random guitar and smashed it. The next performance was the ever popular "Pain" sung by Three Days Grace which was really good. It started off acoustic then changed to the album version with a serious of light shows and fire. Plus the lead singer of three days grace was wearing a fedora, thus the perfomance was spectacular. The band and the vocals weren't equal but it was a lot better from Billy Talent's performance, the tech guys seemed to be getting better. The next performance was by Patrick Wilson singing "Lucious Life". I have only heard a bit of Patrick Wilson and overall I was impressed for those who are saying who is Patick Wilson... he sortof sounds similiar to Chris Martin (lead singer of Coldplay). It sounded great! The next performanc was The Tragically Hip with "You're not the Ocean" featuring Bob Rock, the performance sounded good and the music and vocals were equal. Well done tech guys they finally equalled up the sound levels an hour and a half into the two hour show, I am so glad that you didn't spend any time working on this before the show! Up next was a montague of Nelly Furtado's hits from her newest cd Loose which the vocals were extremely shaky and this had nothing to do with the tech guys. The next performance was pretty spectacular it was a mix of City and Colour's "I'm coming Home" and Alexisonfire's "This could be anywhere in the world"! THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT THIS SHOW! It was half acousitc and half Alexisonfire! It was the best! As the performances had improved to this new state i was anticipating what would be next would be the best but instead i got Gregory Charles singing his "I think of you." I just plain don't like that song however it did sound pretty good live... Then finally Champion sang "No Heaven" to end the awful two hour show of the Juno's. I love Champion they are an awsome band and they sounded really good and that song no heaven is one of their best.

Now for the televised awards....
Juno Fan Choice: Nelly Furtado
Group of the Year: Billy Talent
New artist of the Year: Tomi Swick
Single of the Year: Promiscious by Nelly Furtado ft. Timberland
Rock Album of the Year: Billy Talent 2, Billy Talent
R&B Album of the Year: MySoul, Jack Soul
Album of the Year: Loose, Nelly Furtado
A couple awards I would have liked to have seen but weren't televised:
New Group of the Year: Mobile (one of my favourite bands!)
Alternative Album of the Year: City and Colour
Video of the Year: Bridge to Nowhere, Sam Roberts
Intenational Album of the Year: Taking the long way home, Dixie Chicks
Nickelback's All the Right Reason was only nominated for one Juno.... Stabilo, not even nominated, Chemical City won for best video, Tommorow Starts Today passed over for the night before the Juno's we'll give out the awards. How can we have Promisicous as the single of the year in Canada when one of the performers isn't even Canadian.... there are so many better songs out there by Canadians that were not represented at the Juno's! Nelly Furtado had to introduce the band Three Days Grace after Rick Hansen came on stage to say a few words and she said this about him "I was always inspired by Rick Hansen...... but mainly it was because he was cute." Are you kidding me!? This is a guy who went across Canada in a wheelchair and the way Furtado was inspired by this was because he was cute! Well at least she had good things to say about Nickelback when they gave her the award for album of the year.... "Thanks to Nickelback because they are all hot." The highlights of the night were seeing Bob Rock become the newest member of the canadian music hall of fame, a few of the performances, MusiCan performance of a twelve year old playing American Women and the end.
The Bottom Line: I love Canadian music (metric, champion, mobile, K-OS, Billy Talent, Three Days Grace, Hedley and many others that weren't represented equally at the Juno's), Canada should invest in tech guys who know what they are doing, Nelly Furtado sucks and finally I don't agree with the main populace of Canada on the topic of music.
